Veeam V13 – A Service Providers Perspective

Veeam V13 – A Service Providers Perspective

With the latest releases, Veeam Data Platform v13.0.1 and Veeam Service Provider Console v9.1. I wanted to share my thoughts on what these updates mean for managed service providers (MSP’s).

In today’s threat landscape, service providers are responsible for delivering not just reliable backups, but genuine cyber resilience. Customers expect rapid recovery, robust security, and predictable service delivery all while cyberattacks become more sophisticated and hybrid IT environments grow increasingly complex.

With the release of Veeam Data Platform v13.0.1 and Service Provider Console v9.1, Veeam has delivered a platform that directly addresses these challenges. Together, they provide a modern, scalable, security-first foundation for delivering Backup as a Service (BaaS), Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS), and managed cyber-resilience services.

A Security-First Platform Built for Today’s Threats

Security is fast becoming a focus in the data resilience space. It’s not just about protecting the data but ensuring that the data is safe, secure and clean for those moments when you need it the most.

License Parity

Traditionally the way service providers have sold licenses has differed from that buying via a reseller. Now service providers can take full advantage of the Veeam Data Platform suite of products.

Feature Release Parity

Recently at VeeamOn 2025 Veeam’s CTO made a commitment that on Day 1 service providers will have the same functionality available to them This is a positive step and one I hope long continues across all products.

A Hardened Infrastructure by Default

The shift to the Veeam Software Appliance (VSA) a hardened, Linux-based deployment model changes the game for service providers. By removing the dependency on Windows servers, providers benefit from:

  • A significantly reduced attack surface
  • Lower OS patching and maintenance overhead
  • Built-in hardening aligned with modern security benchmarks

High Availability

One of the biggest requests is now here in High Availability for your Veeam server. There are some caveats to this however.

  • Linux Appliance Only
  • Veeam Data Platform Premium License is required
  • Servers have to be on the same subnet.

Immutability Everywhere

Immutable backups are now essential for defending against ransomware. Veeam v13.0.1 reinforces immutability as a default capability across repositories. For service providers, this simplifies compliance discussions and provides a powerful assurance: your clients’ data cannot be altered or deleted, even if credentials are compromised.

Integrated Threat Detection & Response

Version 13 introduces expanded malware detection and anomaly visibility directly into backup workflows. With integrations into security platforms (SIEM, SOAR, XDR), providers can now deliver a more proactive, intelligence-driven service bridging backup operations with cybersecurity practices.

Scalable, Flexible Coverage for All Customer Environments

One of Veeam’s greatest strengths and a key reason providers continue to choose it, is its ability to support virtually every workload type.

Broad Hypervisor & Cloud Support

  • VMware vSphere
  • Microsoft Hyper-V
  • Nutanix AHV
  • Proxmox VE
  • Oracle Linux Virtualisation / Red Hat Virtualisation
  • Scale Computing environments
  • Public cloud workloads (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud)
  • Physical servers and endpoints
  • Databases, NAS, and file shares

We will see continued growth in this area especially with the release of the Universal Hypervisor API.

Instant Recovery to Azure

Instant Recovery now extends directly into Microsoft Azure. For MSP’s, this unlocks new capabilities such as:

  • Rapid failover to the cloud
  • Clean-room recovery after a cybersecurity event
  • Cloud DR environments without heavy pre-staging costs

Operational Efficiency at Scale: Automation, APIs, and Performance

This is an area that I’m particularly excited about especially around the API’s and automation pieces. These areas will allow MSP’s to put their own brand of special sauce into their offerings. Allowing things such as rapid near zero touch onboarding, custom CRM integration and dashboards etc.

A few other key points are listed below

  • Faster Backup & Restore Operations
  • AI-Powered Intelligence Layer

Final Thoughts

Veeam Data Platform v13.0.1 and Service Provider Console v9.1 represent a major evolution for service providers. This is not merely an update, it’s a modern, security-focused, automation-driven platform built for how MSPs and cloud providers operate in 2026 and beyond.

With the acquisition of Securiti.AI it will be interesting to see the next evolution of the platform and just how service providers can take full advantage of this.
